How does the voting process work?
Local Authorities are invited to submit a number of possible sites that they would be happy to permanently protect under the terms of the Challenge. The suitability of these sites is verified by FIT and a Framework Deed is then signed by the Local Authority. The Framework Deed commits the Local Authority to execute the Deed of Dedication on an agreed number of sites which will be selected through the public vote. Once the Framework Deed has been signed the nominated sites are uploaded to www.qe2fields.com – FIT’s dedicated web site for the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge. Each nominated site is represented on the website with a number of images, a brief description of the site and a depiction of the facilities available at the site.

How will the public vote?
Visitors to the web site will be able to select a geographical area either by postcode or Local Authority. Once this selection has been made it will be possible to view the sites that have been nominated for that particular area and to cast a vote in favour of a site.

Can multiple votes be cast?
An IP address will only be allowed a single vote to be cast for an individual site however it will allow votes for more than one site in a local area to be cast. Public access terminals are unlikely to restrict multiple votes being cast which ensures that people can visit their local library, internet cafe and use school facilities to be involved.

What is the timeframe for the vote?
The vote is scheduled to begin mid October 2011 and will last for 4 weeks.

How can a Local Authority promote the vote?
FIT is encouraging all participating Authorities to promote the public vote to its residents and constituents through linking to www.qe2fields.com and creating a section on their website on the Challenge.

Further details on this and access to logos and copy guidelines are available from FIT.

Is voting compulsory?
FIT is happy to proceed directly to the Deed of Dedication on any nominated outdoor space if the Local Authority would prefer. It will still be possible for the public to search for and ‘support’ these local sites on www.qe2fields.com and provide their details as potential volunteers if they so wish.

What is the benefit of the vote?
The vote provides a vehicle for any participating Local Authority to promote their participation in the Diamond Jubilee, their commitment to outdoor recreational space and active interest in the views of their residents and constituents. It also provides a platform to gauge support for local projects on nominated sites. Engaging the public in helping to select these sites creates a positive message and will encourage future participation on these sites.
