Fields in Trust welcomes new Government Guidance

Fields in Trust Welcomes New Guidance

The Department for Education published new Guidance last week to support the School Premises Regulations – effective from 1st November - which shows a positive improvement on the draft in relation to school playing fields.

The needs of other local schools once again need to be considered when any disposals of school playing fields are reviewed by the School Playing Fields Advisory Panel and the need to prioritise reinvestment of capital receipts into sport has been reinstated.

Alison Moore-Gwyn, Chief Executive of Fields in Trust said: ‘We’re very pleased to see these two key points reinstated in the new Guidance. Fields in Trust also lobbied for an interpretation of the subjective ‘suitable outdoor space’ which is now spelt out with more clarity in relation to sufficiency, quality and accessibility. This is a marked improvement and one that we welcome.’
