Aunt Phoebe's Recreation Ground was established under a deed of Trust as a Recreation Ground for the villagers of Long Compton in September 1930. The gift of land was made in response to the initial call by the National Playing Fields Association for land to be designated as recreation grounds. Since then the Ground has been used regularly as a playing field supporting both football and cricket and providing play facilities for young children. However, in 2004 football was discontinued on the field which then fell into disuse for sports. Long Compton's Parish Plan called for more use to be made of the Ground and in 2007 a football club was reestablished followed by a Cricket Club ib 2010. Both are now very active although cricket can only be played at away locations until the ground is improved. Registration as a QE11 field will add the final impetus to completing the task of reestablishing the Ground.
